Wine of the Month

Wine of the Month for April 2018 - Belle Glos Pinot Noir 2016 Clark & Telephone Santa Maria Valley

Belle Glos Winery produces distinctive Pinot Noirs from several California coastal wine growing regions. Owner/winemaker Joe Wagner chose the name Belle Glos to honor his grandmother - Lorna Belle Glos Wagner - who was a co-founder of Caymus Vineyard. This 2016 Pinot Noir is definitely a fitting tribute.

Deep scarlet in color with aromas of blackberry, the wine is bright, fresh, and exuberant, with ripe black cherry flavors, as well as a hint of strawberry. This is definitely a wine to accompany a wide variety of food - it is perfectly balanced, with a nice touch of acidity and soft velvety tannins. Biba and I recently enjoyed the Clark & Telephone Pinot Noir with dinner on two separate occasions - once with Petrale Sole and once with Cotolette alla Milanese. It was great on both occasions.

For the entire month of April 2018 we are offering the 2016 Belle Glos from Clark & Telephone vineyards in Santa Maria Valley at the reduced price of $50 per 750 ml bottle and $12.50 per glass. I’m sure you will love this wine.

Wine of the Month for March 2018 - Foxen Winery Cabernet Franc 2014 Santa Maria Valley

Foxen Winery Cabernet Franc 2014 Santa Maria ValleyCo-owners Bill Wathen and Dick Dore’ have been together since 1989 when they first established the winery. Bill is the winemaker and Dick is the general manager. And what a team they are. They started with a humble “tasting shack” along Foxen Canyon Road in Santa Barbara County wine country, and now they have a new solar-powered winery and tasting room. Although Foxen Winery is known primarily for its Pinot Noir, its Cabernet Franc is also one of my favorite wines.

This wine is not the usual bland variety of Cabernet Franc. It is big, luscious, and velvety, with a long lingering finish and a nice touch of acidity. An excellent food wine - as are all the Foxen wines - it can be enjoyed with almost any type of food. Biba and I enjoy it with beef or lamb.

For the entire month of March 2018 we are offering the Foxen Santa Maria Valley 2014 Cabernet Franc at the reduced price of $76 per 750 ml bottle, and as Wine by the Glass for $19.

I think you will like this wine as much as I do.

Wine of the Month for October 2017 - Bramito 2016 Chardonnay Umbria IGT Castello della Sala

Bramito 2016 Chardonnay Umbria IGT Castello della SalaThe Antinori family has been involved in the production of wine for over six centuries. Castello della Sala estate was purchased by the Antinori family in 1940. Today the Marchese Antinori winery is run by Albiero Antinori with the support of her sisters Allegra and Alessia. Although the wine bottle label does not have the Antinori name prominently displayed, there is no doubt this is an Antinori wine.

This Umbria IGT wine is 100 percent Chardonnay and it is a beauty. The first vintage of Bramito was produced in 1994, and its popularity has never waned. Nota Bene: this is not your typical, over-oaked Chardonnay. It is pure Italian in nature. Straw yellow in color, with aromas of tropical fruit with a hint of citrus fruit,it is well balanced, has great mouthfeel, and is extremely food friendly.

For the entire month of September 2017 we are offering the Bramito 2016 at the reduced price of $36 per 750 ml bottle or $9 per glass. I think you will like this wine.
